During the construction of The dot and beyond, we’re making it easier to bike and walk to downtown Ferndale. There are numerous bicycle racks for safe storage around downtown and additional temporary bicycle parking areas will be provided during special events. Our sidewalks are accommodating and ADA accessible for pedestrian use and we will be incorporating some fun games and signage throughout construction to keep things interesting.
Ride sharing is encouraged to get to downtown Ferndale. Convenient drop-off and pick-up locations are able to be viewed on this map.
Downtown Ferndale is a SMART bus thoroughfare and features several stops along Woodward Ave and Nine Mile Rd. We encourage you to visit the SMART website to find a transportation schedule and option that works for you.
Traffic, Parking & Noise
The dot is being carefully designed with green coverings and screens to prevent homes from seeing headlights and hearing honking and traffic noise, as well as to prevent litter from escaping the building. In fact, you may experience less noise and pedestrian issues than in the past.
While The dot will bring additional traffic, you’ll see a reduction both in residential street parking and traffic generated by those circling lots and searching for available spaces. A 2017 traffic study performed by OPUS International Consultants found that the creation of a new development would create no significant impacts in neighborhood traffic.
The parking capacity problem in Ferndale has created overtaxed lots, which in turn has visitors and employees parking on residential streets and alleys. The creation of The dot and additional parking capacity will mean less street-parking demand and a more successful Residential Parking Zone (RPZ). In short, parking at your homes will be easier once this project is complete!
